Kakao has appointed Shin Ah, CEO of Kakao Ventures, as its new CEO.
Kakao announced that it held a director candidate recommendation committee meeting on the morning of the 13th and reported Kakao Ventures CEO Shin Ah, who is in charge of business management, as the sole representative nominee. Nominee Jeong will be appointed as the official representative through the board of directors and general shareholders’ meeting scheduled for March.
Kakao believed that appropriate leadership was needed to lead the new change, and judged Jeong, who had professional knowledge and experience in the IT field, as the right person to be the new CEO. The appointee will focus on securing AI technology initiative capabilities and creating systems and systems appropriate for scale to meet social expectations.
Nominee Chung Shin-ah joined Kakao Ventures in 2014 after working at Boston Consulting Group, eBay’s Asia-Pacific regional headquarters, and Naver. Since 2018, he has served as CEO of Kakao Ventures and has discovered and invested in IT startups in various fields, including advanced technologies such as AI robots, mobile platforms, games, and digital healthcare. In addition, with over 10 years of successful experience in the VC field, he has developed analysis and problem-solving skills for each growth stage from startup establishment to growth and unicorn, and has a deep understanding of Kakao’s various businesses and services, including commerce/advertising. Appointed Shin Ah joined Kakao as other non-executive director in March 2023, and since last September, her role has been expanded and she is in charge of overall business division within the CA council. He is currently participating in discussions on the direction of reform as a standing member of the Management Reform Committee. In the future, as a designated candidate, he will serve as head of the reform task force, setting the direction for Kakao’s practical reform and taking care of detailed tasks.
