The first major excitement of the game took place after almost an hour: Because of repeated foul play, Kaiserslautern’s Nicolas Sessa saw the yellow-red card (59th minute). Verl promptly took advantage of the majority and took the lead only four minutes later through Kasim Rabihic (63.). The Palatinate were not worried by the deficit and so managed to equalize in the 70th minute. Kenny Prince Redondo scored 1: 1 after great preparatory work by Anas Bakhat.
