Kai Havertz’s form proves Arteta was right not to go for Toney

Mikel Arteta will be rightly happy this Wednesday morning, after his Arsenal side knocked out French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Spaniard launched his tactical sport against his former club, and the match was settled at half-time thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka.

Havertz in particular had been criticized in the past, with no one really knowing what his best position was.

However, Arteta’s patience with the Germany international is really starting to pay off, and his goal against PSG was already his fifth in nine games this season (transfermarkt).

The Spaniard praised the result, saying (according to BBC Sport) that: “It was incredible. His football brain, the way he understands space, timing, the way he brings people together and his work ethic is incredible.

“Every time he is in the box he is a real threat and he is one of the main players at the moment. »

Before the match, Havertz endeared himself even more to the Gunners faithful when he hit out at former club Chelsea.

That didn’t stop his former Blues manager Frank Lampard from saying how happy he was to see the player succeed.

Indeed, what he is currently proving is that he is the striker the club always wanted – and always needed.

Perhaps not a target man in the traditional sense, his goalscoring record in recent times cannot be beaten, and he proved Arteta was right not to go for Ivan Toney (linked by Sky Sports) or Victor Osimhen (Fabrizio Romano).

Certainly, the ease with which Havertz appears to play the game is deceptive. He glides across the pitch seemingly without worry, but plays it behind defenders and he rarely lets Arsenal down.

He can also score all types of goals, making him an ever-present threat to the Gunners’ opposition.

If he maintains his current form until the end of the season and remains injury-free, there is no reason for the north Londoners to enter the transfer market for the striker next summer.
