Is the Lewandowski extension finally picking up speed? According to current media reports, Oliver Kahn would like to approach the Polish top scorer as soon as possible and initiate talks.
While Bayern have already started contract talks with Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, Lewandowski has had to be patient so far. The Pole should therefore not only be irritated, but also slightly pissed off. However, waiting for a signal from Bayern seems to have come to an end.
Contract negotiations over coffee?
As “BILD” football boss Christian Falk reports in his podcast “Bayern Insider”, Oliver Kahn has declared the contract extension with the top scorer a top priority. Normally, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic is in the lead when it comes to contracts, but club boss Kahn takes the initiative with Lewy.
According to Falk, the 52-year-old would like to “meet for a coffee” with the striker as soon as possible. One thing is clear: This interview will not be about tough salary issues, but primarily about signaling to the Poles that you really want to keep him. Kahn would probably also like to calm things down a bit.
Lewandowski extension will be expensive for Bayern
One reason why Bayern are so hesitant about Lewandowski is the salary issue. According to rumours, the 33-year-old currently earns between 23-25 million euros at FCB. According to “BILD” information, the Bayern bosses expect his advisor Pini Zahavi to ask for a salary increase again. From a purely sporting point of view, as of today, this would be absolutely justified. However, Lewandowski is on the verge of a contract until 2025 and there is no guarantee that the striker will be able to maintain this level in the next three years.
As the “BILD” wants to know, a new 3-year contract will cost the Munich team at least 85 million euros. In addition to the salary, bonuses and commissions for consultants and players are also due.
