Jambi Ditreskrimum regional police arrested 12 officers of the city transport service (Dishub). Jambi and Batanghari Regency because they were found to have made illegal withdrawals (extortion). Jambi Transportation Agency chief Saleh Ridho spoke and said three of them had been sent home.
“So, in this way, we have also handled this case, and on this we will also follow up the Inspectorate for the officer arrested yesterday by the police. Currently, the three Department of Transport officers who had been secured have also been sent home , but they have yet to perform the mandatory reporting as well,” Saleh Ridho said detikSumatraSaturday (17/12/2022).
Saleh also confirmed the existence of extortion by its members. He explained that the extortion was carried out due to the condition of many coal vehicles and causing traffic jams.
“Let me also say this, right? Field agents really need to collect distribution fees for heavy transport vehicles at the terminal. It is only because road conditions are often clogged with heavy transports such as coal trucks, that’s why agents on the ground do not charge fees. the pick up is inside the terminal, but outside the terminal. This is also due to its location to avoid traffic jams and we have also coordinated this issue in advance with the Traffic Directorate as a form of untangling coal congestion on the road,” he said.
Furthermore, Saleh said that the extortion outside the terminal actually violated the rules. However, he said, due to road conditions which sometimes block when the coal transport passes, the picking has to be done outside the terminal.
“But that doesn’t mean the officers are extorting. The money that is put towards the license fee will actually also go to the regional exchequer as well as the regional income. However, seeing as sometimes these coal-fired vehicles cause traffic jams and even if they have to enter the terminal it will also take some time, even so it may create traffic jams on the road, so we have to pay the fees outside, it’s wrong but we coordinated it in advance,” he said.
