Kabul Airport reopened / Article

The Afghan capital, Kabul International Airport, has reopened, according to the United States Army. It is currently the only way for many locals and foreigners to leave the country, which has been taken over by the Islamist Taliban.

On Monday, commercial flights were suspended as several thousand locals left the airfield and tried to break into the planes without tickets and other necessary documents. There were also a number of tragic incidents.

Shortly after midnight local time, it was opened, and a military plane with a U.S. Marine Corps landed at the airport. Additional Western forces are also expected soon to help restore security at the airport and help evacuate thousands of foreigners and their assistants.

Meanwhile, Afghan military personnel are using military air transport to flee the country. The Uzbek authorities report that 22 planes and 24 helicopters with 585 Afghan soldiers were forcibly landed. More than 100 military personnel have arrived in Tajikistan in a similar way.

CONTEXT:

The Taliban began offensive since Afghanistan are exported to the United States and forces of other countries.

Since early August, the Taliban have taken control of most of the country, defeating Afghan security forces, dragging them to their side or forcing them to flee, despite some US aviation support.

Taliban militants on August 15 entered the three suburbs of the Afghan capital, Kabul, without a fight. Afghan officials said the Taliban would not attack the city and intended to hand over power peacefully to the caretaker government. The Taliban have also indicated that they want to peacefully take full control of the country in the next few days.

Meanwhile, Kabul airport was flooded with people who wanted to leave the city. Due to the great chaos in the airport area, the airport representatives decided cancel all commercial flights.

Other countries are closing embassies and urgently evacuating staff from their diplomatic missions. Afghan officials and President Ashraf Gani have also left Afghanistan.
