Kabareskrim Says AGO will Check Cirebon Kejari regarding Nurhayati

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Police Criminal Investigation Bureau Komjen Pol Agus Andrianto said the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) agreed to stop the investigation of the Head of Citemu Village Financial Affairs Nurhayati who was previously named a suspect in the alleged corruption of village funds by the Cirebon Police, West Java.

“Agreed (to stop),” Agus told reporters in Jakarta, Monday (28/2).

Agus said that he had met with the Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah and the Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) Fadil to discuss the issue of P-21 Nurhayati.

The meeting was held after the National Police through the Investigative Supervision Bureau (Wassidik) held a case at the National Police Headquarters on Friday (25/2). The results of the trial show that the Cirebon Police investigators did not have sufficient evidence to identify Nurhayati as a suspect in the alleged corruption of village funds.

During the meeting, said Agus, the Attorney General’s Office agreed with the results of the case at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police, that the Cirebon Police investigators named Nurhayati as suspect on the instructions of the public prosecutor (JPU).

“Therefore, the AGO will conduct an examination within the Cirebon Kejari environment,” he said.

He stated that the results of the examination will be carried out by the Attorney General’s Office in a letter to the Bareskrim Polri to request that Nurhayati’s case, which has been P-21, be transferred to the West Java Prosecutor’s Office for the prosecution to be terminated due to insufficient evidence or the issuance of a certificate of termination of prosecution (SKPP).

“Later we will consider if it is clear that the prosecution for stage II of Nurhayati will be stopped with assistance until the issuance of her SKPP,” said Agus.

The case of Nurhayati was viral on social media and attracted public attention because many parties considered that she was one of the reporters/parties who tried to uncover the corruption case of village funds in Citemu.

The determination of Nurhayati as a suspect by the Cirebon Police this week has also drawn criticism and protests from the public and various civil society organizations.
