Kaba Diawara dreams of the 2026 World Cup: “We have this dream of going to the World Cup for the first time”

CONAKRYGuinea is preparing on the right foot for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The country which has never qualified for a World Cup final phase, dreams of tasting the joy of this competition.

But to get there, Kaba Diawara and his players are in a group where Algeria is logically the favorite team. However, the Guinean coach says he believes in Syli’s chances of qualifying, before the start of these qualifiers in the coming weeks.

« By winning these two matches, we would have 6 points and we would put ourselves directly in a good position. We know that Algeria is the favorite of our group, we have this dream of going to this World Cup. I would love to be at the head of the team that takes Guinea to the World Cup. This would be a first. If we win these two matches, we will stay the course and above all we will give ourselves maximum confidence before the African Cup », declared Kaba Diawara this Wednesday at a press conference at the headquarters of the Guinean Football Federation in Conakry.

Further, and unsurprisingly, the former Guinean striker was questioned by journalists about the absences of Morlaye Sylla and Mady Camara. “ Once again, I will repeat myself, the door to selection is not closed to any player. But, I select players who are in harmony with my expectations and on the basis of their performances in the national team. I’ve often tried to go back with the same group for two years now. This is so that the players get to know each other better and better. For the moment I’m going with these 23 players who I believe will be able to bring us the 6 points.

Guinea faces Uganda on Friday November 17 at 1 p.m. GMT before traveling on November 21 to face Botswana. Winning and pocketing the six points could put Guinea in a good position before the rest of the qualifiers for the next World Cup.
