Kaarst: Fire in Halle – smoke cloud can be seen for miles

A major fire broke out in Kaarst on Friday morning. There a hall is on fire. A warning to the population in Meerbusch and Willich has since been withdrawn.

The Kaarst fire brigade was alerted about a fire in the Vorst district on Friday morning at around 5:30 a.m. There a fire broke out in a 450 square meter hall. The first witnesses also reported minor explosions, as the fire brigade reports.

According to the fire brigade, agricultural vehicles were parked in the hall. These include tractors and combine harvesters. The vehicles were destroyed by the fire, said spokesman Stefan Breitfeld. The emergency services assume a high level of damage. A resident was slightly injured by the rescue service.

As can be seen in the photos, a large cloud of smoke hangs over the hall, which can be seen for miles. The Katwarn warning and information system, which informs the affected population in the event of disasters and dangerous situations, warned of smoke gases in the cities of Kaarst, Meerbusch, especially in the Osterath district, and in Willich on Friday morning. Residents should close doors and windows. A warning for residents was also issued via the “Nina” warning app. A few hours later the all-clear was given.

The fire fighting trains Kaarst and Büttgen are currently in use with around 100 people in the hall. However, the fire has been under control since about 6:40 a.m., Breitfeld said.

Why the fire broke out is still unclear. The police have opened an investigation into the cause of fire.
