Kaag: Embassy in Afghanistan temporarily moves to Qatar

The Dutch embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul is temporarily moving to Qatar. That said the outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs Kaag during her visit to that country.

The last Dutch diplomats left Afghanistan last week when the evacuation mission stopped because it became too unsafe. The ministry has consistently said that the embassy in Kabul will reopen as soon as the security situation allows. A representative of the Taliban is established in Qatar.

Pakistan, Turkey and Slovenia

Kaag is in the Gulf state to discuss when and how the evacuation from Afghanistan can be resumed. There are still hundreds of Dutch people and others in Afghanistan who want to leave for the Netherlands.

Later today, the minister will fly to Pakistan and tomorrow to Turkey. After her visit to the region, Kaag will travel to Slovenia for a meeting with her EU colleagues. This meeting is also mainly about Afghanistan.
