K3 criticizes Egyptian costumes in new film

Dance of the Pharaoh should be the next K3 movie hit, but Studio 100 will be scratching its head for now. Hanne, Marthe and Klaasje wear traditional Egyptian costumes, complete with made-up eyes and braided hair to match. “In a time of Black Lives Matter and we all decided that cultural appropriation is no longer possible, will K3 come up with this in 2020? ‘ one twitterer wonders aloud.

Bee cultural appropriation – or cultural appropriation in Dutch – people measure certain characteristics that belong to another cultural group. In recent years, this has been criticized more often thanks to social media. Partly because of this, K3 is now getting the wind up: “You would think that after all these years they would have become more aware of the problem,” it sounds on Twitter.

Not everyone recognizes the problem. “If they had painted brown, it would have been a very different story,” says one. “But what K3 is doing here is (admittedly, very badly and enormously historically irresponsible) using the iconography of an ancient culture, without appropriating it.”

Studio 100 has also responded to the fuss. “The girls of K3 are in imaginative worlds, in this case a mythical fantasy world of pharaohs and mysterious temples,” they say. VRT News.

K3 recently told how they are doing in lockdown. You can see it in the video below.
