Members of the popular K-pop band BTS can perform during their military service. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of South Korea. The Korean Times reports that members can only swap their army outfits for their artist outfits for special events.
A defense spokesperson said the military is giving space for BTS members to act at events of national significance. It is not clear what kind of events it involves. Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup previously said BTS members can travel overseas to perform, even if the shows are during their military service.
Earlier this week it was announced that Jin, the oldest member of BTS, will soon be doing military service. He is the first of the seven-member group to enlist.
South Korea still has active military service because the country is still officially at war with North Korea. All men between the ages of 18 and 28 must therefore join the army between 18 and 21 months.
