The inaugural American Song Contest featured performers from all 50 states, 5 overseas territories (the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Island of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands) and the capital Washington DC against each other in the compete for the title “Best original song”. The match was broadcasted on the commercial channel NBC.
