JVM in ice hockey will be played in Gothenburg 2024

There will be a hockey party in Gothenburg.

The Junior Ice Hockey World Cup will be held in the city in 2024.

“To once again have the opportunity to see the world’s best junior players at home is both fun and important in our ambition to become Sweden’s most engaging sport,” says Anders Larsson, chairman of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association in a press release.

Actually, the prestigious tournament would have been held in Gothenburg in 2022. But due to the corona pandemic, the International Ice Hockey Federation decided that Canada, which hosted this year’s JVM in an audience-free bubble, would also be allowed to host the championship next year.

JVM in Gothenburg starts on December 26, 2023 and runs until January 5, 2024. Ten teams are included in the tournament and the matches are played in Frölundaborg and Scandinavium.

“We hope and believe that JVM 2024 in Gothenburg will motivate even more young people, both girls and boys, to start playing ice hockey. We will hear more players in the junior WC for many years to come, and to see them as juniors is really fun so I hope that more people take the chance to be on site in Gothenburg “, says Johan Stark, Swedish Ice Hockey Association’s general secretary.

The last time JVM was arranged in Sweden was in Malmö in 2014.
