Juventus Women 1 – 1 Arsenal Women

Arsenal fought back by drawing 1-1 against Juventus in the Champions League match in Turin.

The Gunners, bereft of several players including injured England forward Beth Mead, fell behind early in the second half when Lineth Beerensteyn put Juventus ahead after a quick counter-attack.

Vivianne Miedema headed in from a corner to equalize just after the hour mark, but Jonas Eidevall’s side failed to create a late winning goal.

Arsenal, who were looking to stretch to 100%, remain top of Group C, two points clear of Juventus and three clear of Lyon, who won 3-0 in Zurich.

The Gunners are off to a good start, with Miedema leading the attack while Mead is set to go off after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday’s Women’s Super League defeat to Manchester United.

Stina Blackstenius was played by Frida Maanum, but saw her high shot just skim the top of the bar.

Juve goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, who spent a few seasons with the Gunners, then made a fine save after Swedish striker Blackstenius was sent off again just before half-time. At the other end, Arianna Caruso sent wide in first half added time.

Arsenal pressed again early in the second half when Australia’s Caitlin Foord tested Peyraud-Magnin before Lotte Wubben-Moy’s header was cleared off the line.

But it was Juve who broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when Dutch forward Beerensteyn came on the counterattack past Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger.

Arsenal struck back to equalize just after the hour mark when Miedema headed in from a corner. Miedema fires another shot on the counterattack and in the added time Foord nearly goes on goal, but the Juventus defense holds.
