Preview
The 2-1 defeat experienced by Juventus at Porto headquarters in the first leg of the last 16 was a bit of a loss for them.
The Serie A champions must be guided to appear perfect. A 1-0 victory was enough for them to qualify for the quarter-finals.
However, of course coach Andrea Pirlo will not take the risk and will instruct his team to exert all their strength and anticipate Porto’s potential counterattacks.
For this reason, the Bianconeri have positive capital by winning two previous home matches in the Champions League against Porto, namely winning 3-1 in October 2001 and 1-0 in March 2017, the last being the second leg of the last 16 in the 2016/17 edition.
That record is reinforced by the fact that Porto have not won in their last 13 away games in the knockout stages of the Champions League. The last time they won was in the 2003/04 season with a 1-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna in the semi-finals.
But Juve must also be wary, as they were eliminated in five of the last six editions of the Champions League knockout phase after they lost in the first leg, except for the last 16 of 2018/19 against Atletico Madrid.
Porto came to Turin with good capital, winning 2-0 over Gil Vicente in the Primeira Liga continued last week. It’s just that they are still 10 points behind the leaders, Sporting CP.
Juventus is also in a positive trend, ready to host the Portuguese giants after winning a 3-1 comeback victory when receiving Lazio’s visit to Serie A at the weekend.
Prediction: Juventus 2-0 Porto
