Jakarta –
Italian League duel between Juventus vs Napoli postponed again to April. This decision was protested by AS Roma. Why?
As reported by Football Italia and Sky Sport Italia, previously the Giornata 3 postponed match will be held on March 17, 2021 at the Allianz Stadium. However Napoli and Juventus asked for this match to be postponed again, and Serie A set a date for 7 April instead.
Reportedly, this is to relax the tight schedules of the two teams. It is known, Napoli will compete against AC Milan on March 14 and AS Roma on March 21.
If the match is against Juventus held according to schedule (17 March), then Naples will face three tough matches in a row. The shift in the schedule for Juventus vs Napoli is intended so that Gennaro Gattuso’s squad can get more rest.
Juventus also agreed with this schedule change. Moreover, they have just been eliminated in the Champions League by Porto. The Bianconeri hope to get more rest, so they can compete again in Serie A.
Rome protested against this condition. They feel aggrieved by the schedule change.
The reason is, by postponing the fight against Juventus, then Naples has a gap of seven days between against Milan and Rome. This was considered in the Partenopei’s favor.
Meanwhile, Roma, who are still struggling in the Europa League, will meet Shakhtar Donetsk in the second leg of the last 16 on March 18. This means that they only have three days’ distance from the match against Napoli.
Roma have reportedly sent an objection letter to Serie A regarding the change in schedule. Giallorossi felt aggrieved because Napoli became fresher when they met them.
Moreover, the changes were announced less than a week before the match, namely on March 12. Rome wants to know when the request for change will be made. According to Serie A regulations, requests for changes must be made 15 days before the day of the match.
“We ask for clarification, what is the motivation of this schedule change in terms of sports. Because we do not see any clear reason except for the benefit of the schedule. Naples, who will face us on March 21, “said a Rome statement.
Juventus vs Napoli supposed to be held on October 4, 2020 then. However, the match was postponed because Napoli was not present in Turin after being banned from traveling by local authorities, following a COVID-19 case in the team.
Naples was sentenced to lose 0-3, but in the end won the appeal and the match must still be played.
Naturally, if this change of schedule was protested by Rome. Because the three teams are still competing at the top of the Serie A standings, at least to fight for tickets to the Champions League next season.
