For their first outing under Thiago Motta on Monday evening, Juventus did not fall into the trap against the promoted Como (3-0). However, Khephren Thuram and Timothy Weah, starters but injured during the match, did not finish the match.
Khephren Thuram and Timothy Weah will long remember this first match of the 2024-2025 championship. For Thiago Motta’s inaugural match at the helm of Juventus, the two former Ligue 1 players were starters on Monday evening against Como, the promoted Serie B team coached by a certain Cesc Fabregas. Unfortunately, both men had to leave the field prematurely. After doubling the lead just before half-time, the American winger was replaced by Nicolo Savona while the Frenchman gave way to Nicolo Fagioli with about twenty minutes left in the game. The day after this opposition, the two men underwent tests and Juventus communicated on the state of health of its two players. “Following the muscular problems suffered during last night’s match, Khephren Thuram and Timothy Weah underwent tests this morning which revealed for the former a low-grade lesion of the biceps femoris of the left thigh and for the latter a low-grade lesion of the biceps femoris of the right thigh,” the statement read.
Motta inspired for his first
The American, who has been with the Bianconeri since last summer, and the Frenchman, who has been transferred to Piedmont for a month, will therefore be absent from the next league match scheduled for Monday on the pitch of Hellas Verona. However, both men will undergo new medical examinations in “ten days” according to Juventus, to monitor the evolution of their unavailability. Apart from this bad news, the Old Lady had everything going well yesterday for the premiere of Thiago Motta. Moreover, the former Paris Saint-Germain player was inspired since he started the young Samuel Mbangula, a reserve team player, in place of Federico Chiesa (who is about to leave?). And this choice paid off since the left winger opened the scoring before the half-hour mark. For the record, Andrea Cambiaso sealed the fate of the match in the money-time of the game (3-0), enough to allow Juventus to start this championship well while taking advantage of the missteps of the other big teams.
