According to Fabrizio Romano, Italian giants Juventus are looking for a solution to sell former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey in the upcoming January transfer window. Ramsey is no longer in the club’s plans which saw him start looking for a new opportunity.
This is not surprising, as Ramsey, 30, earns a hefty salary without necessarily producing. Ramsey’s original signing from Juventus looked spectacular, but The Old Lady has failed to create a solid midfielder for some time now.
Juventus seek to sell former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey
An expected split
It’s too early to speculate on where Ramsey will transfer to, but the point is Ramsey’s time at Juventus is likely over.
In his debut season, he scored three goals and provided one assist in 24 matches. The following season, Ramsey did better with two goals and five assists in 22 games. Ramsey, however, is a ghost this season. He has three Serie A appearances in a season stretching back over a quarter of the calendar. In the Champions League, Ramsey has appeared twice.
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri often opts for a 4-4-2 formation. This formation, of course, requires two central midfielders. Allegri tends to lean on Weston McKennie and new recruit Manuel Locatelli. This is not surprising, as these two players played better than the others in midfield. Juventus have plenty of other options on the bench as well. This includes Arthur, Adrien Rabiot and Rodrigo Bentancur. All of them seem to be preferred over Ramsey.
Midfield performances are lacking at Juventus, especially at the domestic level, but the point is Ramsey is buried deep.
Ramsey also wins a staggering amount of money for a player of his ability. Obviously, it’s not viable for Juventus to leave the bench. Put simply, the time has come for the club to part ways with the player.
The Welshman is still a solid footballer. He is also 30 years old. With more than a few years left at a high level, Ramsey can surely find another team sooner rather than later.
