FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are not giving up and will make another attempt in 2022 to launch a European Super League.
On April 19, 2021, news of a possible European Super League was released. Twelve clubs (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, Juventus, Inter, Atlético de Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid) issued a statement indicating that they were investigating the possibility of creating this new formula.
However, the plan never saw the light of day. The supporters of the various clubs expressed their indignation. Fifa and UEFA immediately threatened stiff penalties for the clubs involved if the plans came to fruition. Most of the teams withdrew quickly, only FC Barcelona, Real and Juventus continued to support Super League plans.
The three clubs could make another attempt to launch this European competition in 2022, according to the Financial Times. In recent days, there has been talk of the “legal feasibility” of the plans. Last August, Florentino Pérez (Real), Joan Laporta (Barcelona) and Andea Agnelli (Juventus) met to discuss the plans.
