Juventus is currently in negotiations with UEFA regarding its voluntary exclusion from the 2023/24 Conference League. The Italian club is seeking this exclusion in exchange for UEFA clearing its record regarding financial fair play. This move comes as the new administration of Juventus aims to repair its relationship with UEFA, which was strained during Andrea Agnelli’s tenure.
According to reports from ‘Tuttosport’, Juventus is also willing to definitively abandon the Superliga project as a gesture of goodwill towards UEFA. The club hopes that these actions will help expedite a “peace treaty” between the two parties.
Juventus has been sanctioned with 10 penalty points for artificially inflating profits, which resulted in the club finishing in 7th place in the last edition of Serie A. As a result, Juventus is not particularly concerned about giving up their spot in the Conference League, as the competition is not seen as attractive in terms of both sport and finance.
However, this voluntary exclusion from the Conference League also means that Juventus will not be able to participate in the first edition of the Club World Cup with 32 teams. The vacancy left by Juventus in the Liga Conference could potentially be filled by Fiorentina or left unfilled.
The negotiations between Juventus and UEFA are ongoing, and both parties are working towards finding a resolution. Juventus hopes that by voluntarily excluding themselves from the Conference League, they can demonstrate their commitment to financial fair play and rebuild their relationship with UEFA.
