Juventus had a very difficult 2022. At the end of the 2021-2022 season, Juve finished in 4th place, 16 points behind reigning champions Milan. But much more than this place off the podium, it is above all the food shortage that will have upset more than one. Because in fact, Juventus have won absolutely no titles during the 2022 calendar year.
A first since 2004
This lack, at national level, hasn’t happened since 2004. Even that year, the bianconeri had not won any title on Italian soil. But this year Massimiliano Allegri’s boys could have won a trophy: the Coppa Italia. However, Inter qualified for the final, winning 4-2 against defenseless Juventini.
But far more than a scarcity, it’s sports scores that are reported by fans. Juve’s last Scudetto in Serie A dates back to 2020, when the Bianconeri won their ninth consecutive Scudetto. In the Champions League, the club remained within 3 consecutive eliminations in the round of 16 of the competition. And this season they won’t even see the knockout stage after 3rd place. The most coveted trophy since 1996 has not yet been won, and in Turin we are impatient.
A season of transition?
This season has not necessarily heralded better days for Juve. Indeed, Massimiliano Allegri had started this new year very badly, both in Serie A and in the Champions League. Now donated to the Europa League for the play-offs, the bianconeri have nevertheless managed to get back on top in the league.
From the top of their 3rd place, the bianconeri can still believe in the title. However, the competition is very tough in this season on the other side of the Alps. Napoli runs in the lead and does not seem to slow down. Milan also wants to overtake the 2-man, while Inter and Lazio also remain in contact with Juve. The season finale will be difficult, and above all decisive for the future of Juventus.
Soon a new Juventus?
In addition to the sporting aspect, the administrative one has also taken its place in this 2022 on Juve’s side. The leaders, in fact, were targeted by an investigation, after a suspicion of falsifying documents relating to wire transfers. The club found itself in turmoil, and the entire Juve board, including the president Andrea Agnelliresigned.
With new president Gianluca Ferrero arriving in January, Juve can look in the right direction. The charges against them have recently been dropped and we can look to the future with much more serenity. However, big changes could be expected in this team. Several transalpine newspapers announce movements, especially on the bench, by the end of the season. Massimiliano Allegri could retire at the end of the current exercise depending on the results.
Several players are also announced at the start. Certain executives, such as Adrien Rabiot or Dusan Vlahovic, would be much courted in Europe, and certain departures seem inevitable from Juventus’ side. Destroy to rebuild better, or simple renewal? Only the future will tell…
