Juventus have reportedly joined Inter Milan in a fiercely contested race to sign Bayer Leverkusen captain Jonathan Tah.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInter1908the Turin heavyweights are planning to hijack Inter’s long-standing interest in the Germany international.
Beppe Marotta has identified the 28-year-old as an ideal cost-effective solution to rejuvenate Inter’s defensive options.
Indeed, Tah’s contract at the BayArena runs down at the end of the season.
With Bayer Leverkusen struggling to persuade their star to pledge his allegiance to the club, Marotta spotted an opportunity.
The Inter president hoped to take advantage of Tah’s contractual wobble to lure him to Giuseppe Meazza on a Bosman deal next summer.
However, it would require the ex-Hamburger SV star to stay at Leverkusen for the remainder of the season.
Yet, that’s where Juventus come in.
Juventus Planning to Hijack Inter Milan Interest in Bayer Leverkusen Star Jonathan Tah
Juventus must sign a new defender this winter after losing Gleison Bremer to a season-ending injury.
Indeed, Bremer suffered a disastrous knee fracture against RB Leipzig and will likely stay on the sidelines until next summer.
Therefore, the Bianconeri sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, is contemplating a January move for Jonathan Tah.
With the clock ticking for Leverkusen, they could be open to proposals for their talismanic defender.
Giuntoli will seek a cut-price agreement, aware of the player’s contractual status.
It would disrupt Inter’s bid to sign Tah on a free transfer next summer.
Unfortunately, Juventus cannot afford to wait. They must act quickly. And it could come at the Nerazzurri’s expense.
However, there’s no doubt that Tah would’ve been an upgrade on Inter’s defensive options.
At 28, he’s at his peak powers.
Since Inter aim to add fresh blood to their aging backline, he would be a massive coup.
But it would only be possible if Juventus’ winter effort comes a cropper.
