Juventus Advances to Europa League Quarterfinals by Ousting Freiburg

Freiburg

Juventus step to Europa League 2022/2023 quarter-finals. This is after the Bianconeri beat SC Freiburg 2-0 in the second leg of the Round of 16.

Capitalizing on last week’s 1-0 victory, Juventus took turns visiting the Europa-Park Stadium, Friday (17/3/2023) early morning WIB. Juventus did lose possession but were more aggressive with 15 attempts, eight on goal compared to the hosts’ four on goals.

Juventus’ goals were scored in each half, through penalties from Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa. The Old Lady advanced to the last eight with an aggregate advantage of 3-0.

The course of the match Freiburg vs Juventus

Juventus did not play Angel Di Maria, who scored in the first leg last week. Moise Kean and Dusan Vlahovic were installed in the attack which was supported by Filip Kostic and Juan Cuadrado from the wings.

It was Ritsu Doan who created the first chance in this match and almost brought Freiburg ahead, had his chipped shot not gone wide of Wojciech Szczesny’s goal.

Mark Flekken saved his goal in the 15th minute after brushing off Manuel Locatelli’s shot.

Mathias Ginter had a chance for Freiburg in the 23rd minute but his header from a corner was saved by Szczesny.

Juventus scored a goal through Vlahovic in the 28th minute when he leaked the ball in a chaotic situation in front of the Freiburg goal. VAR annulled the goal because Vlahovic was already offside.

Juventus continued to pound the Freiburg defense and twice came close to taking the lead in the 41st minute, only to be thwarted by Flekken and the players on the goal line.

Juventus received a penalty in the 44th minute after Manuel Gulde held Federico Gatti’s shot with his hand. A red card was shown for Gulde and Juventus went 1-0 up because of Vlahovic’s penalty into the top corner.

The score lasted until halftime. Entering the second half, Juventus still dominated and looked for ways to score the second goal to make it even more difficult for Freiburg to catch up.

Freiburg and Juventus exchanged attacks in the second half. Felken saves Kean’s header in the 59th minute.

In the last 15 minutes of the match, Juventus played more balls to gain time. Kean had another chance to score in the 84th minute, although his hard shot went wide.

Juventus sealed a 2-0 victory through a goal from substitute Frederico Chiesa in the 95th minute. Adrien Rabiot put in a ball which was easy for Chiesa to kick into the Freiburg goal.
