Jusuf Kalla Talks Age and Flying Hours in Defense Equipment Purchases – Jakarta News

Jakarta

The 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla (JK) has his own views regarding purchasing defense equipment, especially used aircraft. JK views that there are two aspects that must be considered, namely age and flying hours.

Initially, JK was reluctant to debate the quality of the used aircraft he wanted to buy. However, JK believes that the age of the aircraft will definitely influence the technology adopted in defense equipment.

“I’m not arguing like that, but I also understand what planes are, right. So planes are measured by 2 (namely) ages, because age has a big influence on technology. If it’s 25 years old, that means the technology is 25 years ago. If it’s newer, it’s definitely new technology. Besides “What are the flying hours, there are all rules for flying planes, that’s the important thing,” said JK when met at his residence on Jalan Brawijaya, South Jakarta, Wednesday (10/1/2024).

Apart from that, JK also highlighted the price of used aircraft. JK said that usually a 25 year old used aircraft is priced at IDR 1 trillion.

JK admitted that the government had not bought used aircraft once or twice. Remember, the older the plane, the cheaper the price.

“Actually, it’s not just second-hand, how much does a used one cost? That’s a different thing, the price for this is around 12 planes, on average, IDR 1 trillion per plane, a plane that is 25 years old. The question many people ask is, is it worth it? “Isn’t that the price? So it’s not just a matter of used goods, how much are used goods? I don’t think the government has bought used goods once, but it’s always cheap, used goods are really cheap, especially if they’re old,” he said.

As is known, the third debate for the 2024 presidential election was heated, with one of them discussing defense. Presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan believes that purchasing used defense equipment is not the right decision. Especially if the budget comes from debt.

“We don’t use the debt for productive activities. Don’t use the debt for non-productive activities. For example, the debt is used to buy used defense equipment by the Ministry of Defense, that is not the right thing. We should do the opposite,” said Anies in the Third Debate. 2024 Presidential Candidates at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (7/1/2024).
