Jusuf Kalla Supports Airlangga Hartarto as General Chairperson of Golkar Party for 2024 Election

Jakarta

The party senior who is also the General Chairperson of Golkar for the 2004-2009 period, Jusuf Kalla (JK) expressed his support for the General Chair of the Golkar Party DPP Airlangga Hartarto to win the 2024 Election. According to Jusuf Kalla, currently Airlangga is like a general in the five-year war for democracy in Indonesia for the party bearing the banyan tree.

JK admitted that under Airlangga’s leadership the entire structure of the Golkar Party from the center to the regions was solid. According to him, this solidity is what Airlangga needs in order to win Golkar in the elections which will be held on February 14, 2024.

“Solidity is needed to, say, fight, this is Pak General (Airlangga). If you don’t unite, how can you win the battle, right?” said JK after holding a closed meeting with Airlangga at the Darmawangsa Hotel, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, as quoted from a written statement, Friday (4/8/2023).

Apart from JK and Airlangga, the meeting was also attended by other senior Golkar members, such as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Golkar Party, Aburizal Bakrie, Chair of the Council of Experts, Agung Laksono, Chair of the Golkar Ethics Council, Muhamad Hatta, and Theo Sambuaga. Airlangga was also accompanied by the Secretary General of the Golkar Party DPP Lodewijk F Paulus and Iskandar Mandji.

“The area is solid too, if the area is solid, the administrators are solid, yes, that’s what is needed to build strength. And this is what is needed,” said JK.

The Golkar politician who has served as vice president twice emphasized that his party supports Airlangga in leading Golkar to win the 2024 election. JK appealed to all parties not to interfere with the technical policies imposed by Airlangga within the party to achieve victory.

“We support the party, which means we support Mr. Airlangga, of course in making policies. That’s the point. We don’t interfere with the technical policies implemented in the party. We want the party to unite,” said Jusuf Kalla.

The senior Golkar politician advised the solidity of the general chairmen present at the meeting which was held to be a moral boost for the structure of the Golkar Party throughout Indonesia.

He said the meeting, which was held as a casual dinner, was expected to unite all cadres for the victory of party number 4 in the 2024 elections.

“This is important to encourage structural morale, for our unity. That later what will be the policy by the management or Golkar, of course we will leave it as what was mandated by the National Conference or National Working Meeting,” said JK.

Meanwhile, Airlangga said that his meeting with JK was an invitation from senior to junior in the Golkar Party. He admitted that he had conveyed the latest developments in the Golkar Party, that currently the party is very solid to face the 2024 Election.

“Of course earlier from the senior Golkar Party, from Mr. JK, Mr. Aburizal Bakrie, Mr. Agung (Laksono), Mr. Theo (Sambuaga), Mr. Hatta, of course, hoped that this party would be solid. Nothing disturbed the Golkar Party, because as the number two party Indonesia’s largest representative of political institutions and democratic institutions,” said Airlangga.

“So of course the constitution of the Golkar Party is being asked to continue to be maintained and also that outside parties should not disturb the solidity of the Golkar Party,” said Airlangga.

To JK, Airlangga conveyed the target for obtaining DPR seats in the 2024 election, namely, 116 to 120, or the equivalent of 20 percent of the seats in the Senayan parliament.

“And I also convey specifically for the presidential election of the Golkar Party and all DPD and DPP mandated to guard the decisions of the National Conference, Rapimnas and Rakernas, including yesterday’s meeting in Bali,” said the Coordinating Minister for the Economy.
