Jusuf Hamka Buys Chinese Electric Cars Again, Why?

Toll road entrepreneur Jusuf Hamka is again buying electric cars for toll road operations. This time, Jusuf Hamka bought an electric car from China, Chery Omoda E5.

Jusuf Hamka previously bought dozens of Wuling Air EV cars. This tiny electric car was also initially planned to be Jusuf Hamka’s toll road operational car. However, because of its small dimensions, Jusuf Hamka is looking for a bigger electric car.

“This is for those patrolling toll roads because they are big. Previously, Wuling did patrols, but didn’t get permission to regulate toll roads because they were too small, they were afraid of blind spots. The trucks’ blind spots don’t see small cars like that, right,” said Jusuf Hamka to detikOto, Wednesday (6/12/2023).

Jusuf Hamka said that the Chery Omoda E5 electric car would be used as an operational vehicle on several toll roads owned by Jusuf Hamka. The electric car will be seen everywhere on the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road, Cawang-Tanjung Priok, Bogor Ring Road, Soreang-Pasirkoja toll road, Depok-Antasari toll road, and Waru-Juanda (Surabaya) toll road.

Jusuf Hamka said that his party had ordered 70 units of the Chery Omoda E5 electric car. The cars ordered are predominantly yellow and blue.

“I plan to order 200 (units). And I have ordered 70 (units) in yellow and blue,” said Jusuf Hamka.

“Because when we do patrols, we usually put more stickers on them. For highway patrols, the police have white ones, but currently our patrols are orange-yellow, so there are internal and external patrols. Well, this is the yellow one if we stick it on more efficient,” continued Jusuf Hamka.

Chery actually hasn’t revealed the price of the Omoda E5. The price of this car will be released next February, possibly at IIMS 2024. Even so, Jusuf Hamka has already received a leak about the price of this electric car.

“The price if he gets the TKDN facility (10 percent VAT subsidy) is around IDR 500 (million), if not (gets the VAT subsidy) it’s around IDR 600 (million),” he said.

“The Ioniq alone is already Rp. 750 million. This is also Chery, if he has TKDN it could be Rp. 500 (million). Even if it is Rp. 600 million (the price) is at least half that of a Toyota (bZ4X) and a quarter of the price of a BMW and Lexus,” he said .
