In August of last year, news of the divorce between Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his former wife, Sophie Trudeau, surprised the public. After 18 years of marriage, their family relationship could not be saved. Sophie finally spoke for the first time since their divorce.
The former television host who is now a health and relationship expert revealed that she and Justin are still on good terms. The two even live close to each other so they can raise their three children Xavier (16 years), Ella-Grace (15 years), and Hadrien (10 years).
“We still spend a lot of time together. We love each other, we spend time together. Everything happens naturally. The children still sleep together on the night, and everything is fine,” he said in an interview with The Times.
Sophie reflects on the end of her relationship with Justin as a farewell. The 49-year-old woman does not want to add to the problem, especially if it becomes a public consumption.
“We don’t need to dramatize, end abruptly, cut ties to restructure our lives and thoughts,” explained Sophie.
Despite no longer being together, Sophie said she was proud of the way she and her husband navigated life after their divorce.
“If I can be honest, in some ways I’m very proud of how we are, not how the world sees us, how we navigate this,” he said.
The couple first met as children, when Sophie was a companion of Justin’s younger brother, Michel, while they were growing up in Montreal. However, it wasn’t until 2003 that they met again and their relationship soon turned romantic.
Sophie and Justin then married in 2005. Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister of Canada 10 years later.
