Singer Justin Timberlake was granted a plea deal in his drunken driving case in New York on Tuesday.
The deal allows him to avoid drunk driving charges and criminal charges, provided he pleads guilty to a traffic violation.
The 43-year-old singer signed the deal on Tuesday, which is expected to officially close on Friday, according to TMZ.
At the time of the hearing, Justin Timberlake will admit to driving while impaired, according to sources close to the case, and the DUI charge will therefore be officially dropped.
These two charges are different because even though the term “impaired” is used, it does not mean that alcohol is involved.
Justin Timberlake could therefore potentially get away with paying a fine of $300 to $500, an amount that will be set by the judge at Friday’s hearing.
However, the singer’s driver’s license remains suspended because he refused to take a breathalyzer test after his arrest in June in the Hamptons.
Recall that Justin Timberlake was arrested on June 18 in Sag Harbor for drunk driving. He then pleaded not guilty twice to his charge.
