American pop superstar Justin Timberlake assured a court on Friday that he was not at all drunk when he was arrested one night in June driving a BMW in an ultra-upscale East End neighborhood New York, according to local media.
On tour in Antwerp, the 43-year-old singer, producer and actor ended up appearing with a video conference in front of a municipal court 160 km east of the megacity, on the large island of Long Island.
Justin Timberlake pleaded “not guilty” before Judge Carl Irace, a statement to court journalists who were present at the hearing.
His attorney, Edward Burke, said his client was given his New York State driver’s license while his case went to trial.
On July 26, Mr. Burke pleaded alone in court, accusing “the police of making a number of very important mistakes” when the artist was arrested on the night of June 17 to 18: “Justin n “drunk and he should have been. They weren’t arrested,” he said.
But Justin Timberlake had “admitted the facts” that evening, the local county prosecutor’s office told AFP in June.
He was arrested driving a BMW “intoxicated” — “his eyes were bloodshot, his breath smelled of alcohol” — after failing to yield at an intersection and failing to to “keep” his vehicle on the “right” track, according to the police.
