Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Prospective naturalized player for the Indonesian National Team Justin Hubner will undergo an oath-taking procession as Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/12).
PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi said Hubner would arrive in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/12). After a day’s rest, Wolverhampton Wanderers players will be sworn in as Indonesian citizens.
“Tomorrow [Selasa, 5 Desember] God willing it may come [ke Jakarta],” said Yunus at the DPR Building, Monday (4/12). “There will be an oath taking on December 6,” he added.
In fact, Hubner’s naturalization process was approved by the DPR RI on March 21 2023. Hubner’s naturalization was accepted along with Rafael Struick and Ivar Jenner.
However, Hubner did not take the oath as an Indonesian citizen. The reason is that Hubner ignored the call from the Indonesian National Team on March 25.
After more than six months of neglect, PSSI decided to continue Hubner’s naturalization. PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir said Hubner wanted to defend the Indonesian national team.
The process continued. Yunus said the presidential decision regarding Hubner’s citizenship had been issued. Therefore, Hubner was asked to come to Jakarta.
This opens an opportunity for Hubner to defend the Indonesian National Team in the 2023 Asian Cup. This event will take place in Qatar from January 12 to February 10 2024.
The Indonesian national team is in Group D of the 2023 Asian Cup. The team coached by Shin Tae Yong will compete with Japan, Iraq and Vietnam. PSSI’s target in this event is to qualify from the group phase.
