Justin Fields Takes Break from Bears on Instagram, Addresses Offseason Speculation
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields recently caused a stir when he unfollowed the team on Instagram. However, Fields has clarified that his decision is not a serious one. In an appearance on the St. Brown Bros Podcast, Fields explained that he simply wants to take a break from football and enjoy his offseason vacation.
Fields expressed his surprise at how seriously people take social media, stating, “I’m glad we’re talking about it because why do people take social media so seriously? … I still mess with the Bears. I’m just trying to take a little break.” He further revealed that he unfollowed both the Bears and the NFL because he wants to avoid having football dominate his timeline.
Despite his desire to distance himself from football temporarily, Fields remains one of the most important players of the NFL offseason. The Bears currently hold the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft and are faced with the decision of whether to keep Fields or select USC quarterback Caleb Williams, who is highly regarded as a top prospect.
According to the latest mock draft by B/R’s NFL Scouting Department, the Bears are predicted to trade back with the Washington Commanders, who own the No. 2 pick. In this scenario, the Commanders would select Williams, and the Bears would choose North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, potentially ending Fields’ tenure in Chicago.
Naturally, the ongoing speculation surrounding the Bears’ decision has been frustrating for Fields. Despite showing flashes of brilliance during his three-year career, it may not be enough to secure his future in Chicago. Fields expressed his weariness with the constant chatter about his fate, stating, “It’s not even like that. It’s something that I don’t want to see on my timeline. I’m about to go on vacation. I don’t want to see no football. And guess what? It’s either ‘Keep Fields,’ ‘We want Fields,’ or ‘Draft Caleb.’ Man, I’m tired of hearing the talk. I just want it to be over.”
Fields also made it clear that his personal preference would be to remain with the Bears and continue his career with the only franchise he has ever known. When asked if he would consider playing for another team, Fields responded, “Yeah, of course. Of course I want to stay. I can’t see myself playing in another place, but if it was up to me, I would want to stay in Chicago. I love the city. The city’s lit. The fans there, you know, they’re great. … It’s a business I ain’t got no control over, so whatever happens, happens. But I feel like the biggest thing with all this going on right now, I just want it to be over. Like, just let me know if I’m being traded, let me know if I’m staying.”
Fields’ desire for clarity and resolution is understandable. As he embarks on his vacation and takes a break from the football world, he hopes that the speculation surrounding his future will come to an end soon. Whether Fields remains with the Bears or finds himself playing for another team, one thing is certain—he is eager to move past the constant rumors and focus on his career, wherever it may take him.
