Justin Bieber made all fans’ hearts beat faster on Sunday at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Jeddah — where the Formula 1 grand prix was held earlier that day. But his performance in the Middle East has gone down the wrong way with some. According to TMZ, many people would have campaigned to cancel the concert. The widow of the murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi also wrote an open letter asking him to think carefully about his planned appearance in the country. The journalist was brutally killed in 2018 at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Turkey, on the orders of the country’s crown prince.

But all the negative advice clearly left Justin Bieber cold. The Canadian star flew to the Middle East anyway and performed there on Sunday before a frenzied audience. Even before he could make his grand entrance, the audience was already screaming and the show itself was a success. “He gave everything,” it sounded afterwards on social media. His wife, Hailey Bieber, was also said to have been present at the concert in a mask.
