H&M has canceled a Justin Bieber-inspired collection after the singer called it “too cheesy”.
The 28-year-old star said she doesn’t approve of the collection, which includes T-shirts, jackets, bags and phone accessories.
After Bieber posted an Instagram story, the singer urged people not to buy the collection, which he said would be sold without his permission or approval.
The company said it followed the correct procedures but has now shut down the group.
“What H&M did and says it was inspired by me is very cheesy and I didn’t approve of it. Don’t buy it,” Justin wrote in his Instagram story on Tuesday.
“I didn’t agree with any of the content in H&M’s product range,” she added.
“All of this without my permission and approval. I wouldn’t buy it if I were you,” she said.
In a statement, H&M defended the line, which features images of Bieber. “As with all other licensed products and partnerships, H&M has followed the appropriate approval procedures,” a company spokesperson said.
She added, “But out of respect for the partnership and Justin Bieber, we’ve removed the clothes from our stores and the Internet.”
And it’s not the first time that a star has attacked a brand for using his image without permission.
And in 2015, Rihanna won a lawsuit against Topshop, and succeeded in her lawsuit against the parent company for £3.3 million, after Topshop sold a sleeveless T-shirt with her image on it.
And in 2019, Ariana Grande sued Forever 21 after it was alleged she posted at least 30 “unauthorized” photos and videos implying she was in support of her brand.
H&M said it followed procedures but removed the collection “out of respect”.
Bieber is now on hiatus from his concerts after revealing that he suffers from facial paralysis after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs when an outbreak of shingles affects the facial nerve near the ear, causing parts of the face to become paralysed.
