A variety of media, among them Variety, reports that the company Hipgnosis Songs Capital has now bought the rights to Bieber’s music. We are talking about 290 works, and a purchase price in excess of 200 million dollars.

The sale includes Bieber’s songwriting rights and his share of mastering rights to his recorded music, his entire catalog released through December 31, 2021.

– The effect of Justin Bieber on global culture over the past 14 years has been truly remarkable, says Hipgnosis founder and CEO Merck Mercuriadis in a press release.

– This acquisition ranks among the biggest deals ever made for an artist under the age of 70, such is the power of this incredible catalog that has almost 82 million monthly listeners and over 30 billion streams on Spotify alone.

– Only in the initial phase

A number of major artists, such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young, have recently sold music rights for enormous sums. Hipgnosis has been among the most eager buyers.

But, as the company’s founder is aware: Such sales and purchases are most common for artists with a catalog built up over many decades – and preferably with the most salable works dated to the sixties, seventies and eighties.

Bieber’s manager for 15 years, Scooter Braun, has been central to the negotiations. However, he believes the sale does not signal the end for his most famous – and still only 28-year-old – client.

– Justin’s greatness is still only in the initial phase, says Braun in the press release.

You can pick and choose from so many Bieber records. One of them is that he is the youngest artist ever to have eight number one albums in the US to his credit. The previous record holder was Elvis Presley.
