Justice sends the mayor of Antofagasta to class for violating workers’ rights on Facebook | National

The mayor of Antofagasta, Jonathan Velásquez, was sent to fundamental rights classes for violating municipal workers in networks. Specifically, he viralized a backlog check on Facebook, where he stated that more than 40 officials arrived after hours.

The Labor Court of First Instance of Antofagasta found the mayor of the commune, Jonathan Velásquez, guilty of violate the fundamental rights of workers of the Municipal Corporation for Social Development (CMDS).

The foregoing, after the authority published a video on Facebook carrying out a “funa” against the officials who, supposedly, were not complying with their working hours.

Velásquez’s accusations went viral on social networks, despite the fact that in the context of a pandemic a flexible schedule had been established at the CMDS to avoid crowds and allow less capacity in the venue.

The ruling indicates that the dissemination of the video is “an action that by itself denotes a capacity to harm the honor of the workers.”

For this reason, the court established that Mayor Jonathan Velásquez “violated the honor of his associates, on the occasion of the audiovisual record captured in the offices of the Central House on September 29, 2021 and its subsequent dissemination on social networks personal of the aforesaid”.

Due to the violation of labor rights, the Labor Court of First Instance established “the direct and personal participation of Mayor Velásquez and the Headquarters of the CMDS in training on the fundamental rights of workers in the context of labor relations and the limits of the employer in this area.”

This training must be carried out in a place established by the Provincial Labor Inspectorate, within a period of no more than 30 days.

In addition, the defendant was ordered to pay the costs of the trial, established in four minimum monthly income for remuneration purposes.
