Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has announced his intention to designate suspended Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. as a terrorist amid allegations of his involvement in the murder of Governor Roel Degamo. Teves has dismissed the investigation into the Degamo slay case, saying that it has become a “circus.” However, Remulla has slammed Teves, stating that the murder of the governor and 8 others is not funny, and that Teves may face charges of multiple murder, multiple frustrated murder, and multiple attempted murder, as well as a complaint against him for illegal possession of firearms and explosives. Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos has supported Remulla’s views. Teves’ legal counsel, Ferdinand Topacio, has argued that the Anti-Terror Act should not be weaponized against his client.
Justice Secretary Remulla plans to designate suspended Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. as a terrorist due to allegations of his involvement in the murder of Governor Roel Degamo. The lawmaker’s statement that the investigation has become a “circus” was criticized by Remulla, who said it is not funny and that people are living in fear as long as Teves is not in legal custody. Teves’ legal counsel opposes using the Anti-Terrorism Act against him.
