Guadalajara, Jal. Yesterday, Morena requested protection for 40 candidates in Guanajuato from the federal government, reported Mario Delgado, president of the party. Meanwhile, Claudia Sheinbaum, presidential candidate of the Let’s keep making history coalition, demanded justice for the “omission or negligence” with which, she said, the government and the Electoral Institute of that state acted by not providing, despite being requested, security for Gisela Gaytán, candidate for mayor of Celaya who was murdered yesterday.
“The question is why security was not provided, when there is a request from the National Electoral Institute to the Electoral Institute of Guanajuato,” in addition to the fact that in another document, the latter “asks Morena Guanajuato to define why it requires more security,” and In another letter, “formally asks the Secretary of the State Government to provide security to the candidates.”
We want, he stressed, “an investigation in this and other cases so that justice is done. Let us investigate what happened,” she stressed at a press conference.
In turn, Mario Delgado explained that the request for protection for 40 Morena candidates was made through the INE, “but an exception is being requested. It is not a matter of paperwork or bureaucracy, it is a matter of political decision. The federal government responds immediately to the requests that correspond to it, which are the federal and gubernatorial candidates.”
Sheinbaum rejected, when asked specifically, that all candidates in this electoral process request security.
“It is not a matter in which protection is requested for the sake of asking. In places where there is insecurity we are inviting our candidates to request it, but there are places where it is not necessary.”
She insisted that in her case, she feels very safe when traveling on the country’s highway, and reiterated that the June 2 election will be “very participatory throughout the country, a very democratic election.”
He said that he regrets the murder of any candidate in the current electoral process, but “what we are drawing attention to is that what happened to Gisela Gaytán in Guanajuato had not happened on other occasions,” when she and Morena in the entity requested his protection. .
“Our candidates in Guanajuato, because of that background, what they say is we prefer to have security from the federal government.”
We all “must ask ourselves why he was not given security when he requested it, why there are two offices from the Electoral Institute of Guanajuato. In the first, they request evidence of why they need security, it seems incredible to me! They even asked for a complaint almost before the Public Ministry, when Guanajuato is the state with the greatest insecurity and is governed by the PAN. It is natural that the candidates ask for protection, particularly in Celaya.”
Sheinbaum also said that in terms of security there will be coordination with “the future governor of Jalisco, Claudia Delgadillo”, which there is currently no, he said, with the government of Enrique Alfaro. “That will give us a lot of certainty in Jalisco to advance in security and peacebuilding. I am the only one who has experience in it, I did it in Mexico City and we are going to do it in the country,” she stressed.
