On the evening of December 24, this 29-year-old Thionvillois decides to spend New Years eve with his father in Yutz. He goes there in his car. Problem, he is already subject to an administrative retention of his driver’s license for driving under the influence of alcohol. On the spot, he will admit having had several glasses, in particular cognac.
On the way back, he realizes that he forgot his cell phone at his father’s house. He then turns around rue Jean-Jaurès, a narrow street where vehicles are parked on both sides of the road. After a hazardous overtaking, he struck a local resident with his rearview mirror and rolled over his foot. He then lost control of his vehicle, which crashed into two stationary cars in quick succession, throwing them several meters away.
The driver gets out of his vehicle and runs to hide. The police will find him lying on the ground in a nearby garden. It displays 2 grams of alcohol in the blood. The impacted pedestrian presents a fracture of the right foot and a bone tearing. “Fortunately we were walking in single file with my wife, otherwise it could have been much more serious,” he testified on Monday at the bar of the Thionville criminal court.
