Mexico City. The Justice Commission of the Chamber of Deputies was convened on Tuesday to vote on the minutes of the reforms to the Amnesty and Amparo laws.
In the case of the Amnesty Law, one of its most relevant aspects is that it gives the President of the Republic the power to grant amnesty to anyone who provides “verifiable and reliable” information on cases relevant to the country, such as those in Ayotzinapa. , Tlatlaya, San Fernando and Allende.
The figure of amnesty, furthermore, can be granted by the Executive directly, that is, without requesting the endorsement or opinion of the Attorney General’s Office or a judge.
Regarding the modification in matters of protection, this rule seeks to prevent judges and magistrates from issuing suspensions that stop legal reforms without having gone to the bottom of the matter.
In this way, the judges will not be able to issue suspensions with general effects, but these will only be valid for the person promoting the protection.
The Board of Directors of the Security Commission met yesterday to modify the agenda for its session next Tuesday, with the aim of discussing both topics, which were not included in the original call.
The ordinary meeting, with a blended modality, is called at 10 a.m., and it would also discuss the opinions with a draft decree to reform the National Law of Criminal Execution and to repeal article 158 of the Federal Civil Code, regarding equality. of genre.
After being ruled on by the Justice Commission, the initiatives could be taken to the Plenary Session of the Chamber on Wednesday, the date on which the last session of the current period could be held.
At the moment the draft opinion on both issues has not been disclosed and the deputies hope that it will be sent to them during the course of Sunday.
