On Thursday, August 24, 2023, an exchange workshop took place in Banfora for the benefit of media actors, FDS and opinion leaders in the Cascades region. A meeting organized by the community peacemakers of Banfora with the technical and financial support of Initiative Paix au Sahel, housed at the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace (CJP-Burkina).
Banfora’s community peacemakers, with the support of the Sahel Peace Initiative (IPS) housed at the Episcopal Justice and Peace Commission (CJP-Burkina), organized a workshop to equip journalists, FDS and leaders of opinion.
“Social responsibility of the media in a context of security crisis and social tensions”, this is the theme of this exchange workshop which helps to build trust between the FDS and the population and for journalists to better process information in times of crisis. From the outset, it was the CSC/Cascades focal point, Baba Touré, who opened the communications ball.
He presented the seven points of attention and the 10 advice of the Superior Council of Communication (CSC). He urged those on social media to process information in accordance with CSC texts.
Mamadou Traoré, on behalf of the governor, thanked the CJP-Burkina for its actions which advocate peace and living together in our country.
The representative of the trainers, Ibrahim Traoré, also regional director in charge of human rights and the promotion of citizenship and peace of the Cascades, expressed his gratitude to the CJP-Burkina. For him, this workshop will help consolidate the social fabric. So at the end of these exchanges, everyone should know their role to play in consolidating peace and living together in social harmony.
Same story with Hermann Boéna, Assistant for the implementation of activities for the Peace Initiative in the Sahel (SPI) representing the secretariat of the CJP-Burkina. “This initiative was born from the desire of the bishops to contribute to the resolution of this crisis, not only in Burkina Faso but in the Sahel. Each year, we set objectives and this year it is to contribute to social cohesion, peace and the humanitarian response in Burkina Faso. So we have to accompany cells that have been designated as peace ambassadors and among these cells there is the diocesan coordination of Banfora”.
The participants appreciated this initiative, which brought together several resource persons.
