The weekly averages of the number of coronavirus infections, the number of deaths from Covid-19 and the number of hospital admissions continue to rise. This is evident from the preliminary figures from the Sciensano health institute on Friday morning.

Between March 16 and 22, an average of 27.3 people died every day from Covid-19, or 17.9% more than a week earlier. The total death toll thus stands at 22,816 people, an increase of 30 compared to the total of the day before.
In the week of March 19-25, an average of 226.6 people were hospitalized each day, or 22% more than a week earlier. Currently 2,492 people are in hospital (+40 compared to the day before), of whom 651 are in intensive care (+14).
The infections also continue to increase. Between March 16 and 22, the average number of infections increased by 4,331 every day. That is 32% more than in the previous seven-day period. The share of positive tests is 7.7% (+ 0.7%). A total of 854,608 people have already been infected with the virus, an increase of 5,518 compared to the total reported the day before.
Meanwhile, 1.1 million people have already received at least one dose of a corona vaccine (11.9% of the adult population, 9.5% of all citizens). Of these, 464,702 persons are fully vaccinated (5% of the adult and 4% of the total population).
