The United States Secret Service cooperated in the raid on the university in Sofia, AP and AFP news agencies report according to the Bulgarian authorities. Police arrested two people. These are employees of the university who are not mentioned by name.
Printing machines and other materials for making fake notes were also seized. Large sums of money have also been found on the spot: four million dollars and 3.6 million euros.
Presumably, however, it is the tip of the iceberg. “The evidence indicates serious criminal activity,” said police chief Georgi Hadzhiev.

10 percent
Police suspect the perpetrators are part of a large-scale criminal organization involved in the smuggling of counterfeit dollars to Ukraine and euros to Western Europe. “Large-scale criminal activity,” said Lubomir Yanev, head of Bulgaria’s anti-crime office.

The two suspects are a 48-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman. They would have printed the banknotes after working hours and during holidays. They probably got 10 percent of the value; for a note of one hundred euros that is a tenner.
Rich
Anyone who takes into account only the money that was present during the raid, understands that the two darling heaven have become rich. The notes were of “relatively good quality,” said researcher Yanev. The suspects have never come into contact with the police before.
The survey does not show that other university employees were aware of the work of the two.
