/ world today news/ Gazprom announced the route for the Turkish Stream gas pipeline. A large part of the pipes will run along the line of the canceled “South Stream”, in which Bulgaria’s participation was foreseen. Gazprom Director Alexey Miller and Turkey’s Energy Minister Taner Yildiz have agreed on the route and timelines for construction of the TurkStream gas pipeline, the Russian company announced.
The starting point of the tube will be the “Russkaya” station in Anapa. The first 660 km. from the gas pipeline will pass along the old route of “South Stream” along the bottom of the Black Sea to Bulgaria, after which the pipe will turn to the European part of Turkey. The total length of the sea section of “Turkish Stream” will be the same as that of “South Stream” to Bulgaria – 910 km.
The intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Turkey is expected to be signed in the second quarter of this year, and the first gas supplies – 15.75 billion cubic meters – to flow in December 2016. The blue fuel will be destined for the Turkish market.
Given the readiness of the Russian compressor station “Russkaya” and a large part of the route of the offshore gas pipeline, these are completely realistic deadlines, according to the announcement of Alexey Miller.
With the choice of a route for Turkish Stream overlapping with that of South Stream, Gazprom probably wants to leave an opportunity to return to the implementation of the latter, according to Valery Nestorov, an analyst from Sberbank CIB. In a year or two, the situation may change, and then new branches of the gas pipeline will be pushed to Bulgaria, and Turkey will get another gas pipeline and will be able to receive gas from Russia without transit countries, and now it will allow Gazprom to strengthen positions in the negotiations with Europe, believes the expert quoted by the Russian newspaper “Vedomosti”.
