Just Eat Takeaway records a loss of half a billion euros, and other economic news from abroad

Meal delivery company Just Eat Takeaway has suffered a loss of almost half a billion euros in the first six months of this year. The acquisitions of the British Just Eat and the American Grubhub contributed to that loss. The low point is now behind us.

The retail group Walmart performed even better in the second quarter of this year than in 2020, when Americans started hoarding toilet paper and food en masse due to the corona crisis. Walmart mainly sold more through its online store. The total turnover amounted to 120 billion euros.

Danish company Pandora sold much more jewelry in the past quarter, despite its stores being closed due to lockdowns. Compared to the same period last year, sales increased by 62 percent. Worldwide, 26,000 people work for Pandora, of whom 11,400 are in Thailand.

Home Depot, the largest DIY chain in the world, saw its annual turnover increase by more than 8 percent to 35 billion euros. However, sales of building materials, tools, paint and other items rose less sharply than before during the pandemic, now that the covid measures have largely been lifted.
