Jussi69:n, 51, the iconic spiky hair is hidden under a hat, but the eyes are still highlighted by dark kajal. Dark is also the drummer’s laughter that fills the room when the word legend is used about him.

The man himself does not recognize the title in question from his mirror image. For Jussi, playing drums for large audiences is everyday, and there is nothing legendary about him.

– If you think of yourself as a legend, then you’re pretty much lost. I’m just the same Jussi, he laughs in an interview with Iltalehti.

Jussi69, real name Jussi Vuori, has been living the rock life since the 1980s. Thanks to the international popularity of The 69 Eyes band, Jussi has been able to party with world-class stars.

The drummer can’t say that the mood has gotten any calmer. The band’s fun isn’t over, but these days it doesn’t always involve alcohol. Jussi feels that the years have taught him wisdom – and not just when it comes to partying.

– This is a bit of a field that doesn’t have an instruction manual. Mistakes have to be made in order to hopefully learn, for example, what you spend your money on, or how to make tours miserable or nice, says the musician.

The change has not only happened in gigging, but also in him himself.

– I had a really bad time in my twenties. I knew how to list the 200 best rock nightclubs in the world. Today, the difference is that I can list the 200 best gyms around the world, he says with a laugh.

Space for love?

In addition to band activities, the musician runs The Riff rock club and hosts his own radio show. Even Jussi doesn’t understand how he gets to every place.

– On the other hand, I like that kind of chaos and chaos. I don’t really know how to be in my fields. It’s sometimes difficult when I can’t be in many places at the same time, Jussi admits.

However, the pleasant chaos led to burnout ten years ago. The musician’s workload horrified even the doctor, who stated that the man’s pace is insane. With the sick leave, Juss felt better, but the same pace of work still continues. However, the experience taught me something.

– Maybe it taught me that you don’t have to stress like hell about everything. I don’t think too much about how I’m going to cope, I just do one thing at a time.

The full calendar also gives an answer to how Jussi’s love life is going. There is nothing new on that side because there is hardly any time for a love life.

Would Jussi like to give time to love at some point?

– Falling in love is always wonderful, but I’m not the easiest of friends to make friends with. I’m a bit of a challenging guy just because I’m on a trip all the time – you can’t agree on anything with me. If we agree on something for, say, next week, it will change the very next day, he replies.

The rock star admits that he himself has set the bar quite high. Just anyone is not good for Jussi. The musician ponders what kind of features his dream woman would have.

– I like very strong personalities who have their own things, which they do passionately. I don’t need a so-called pet dog that lives in my life, the man enumerates.

Mom’s cancer

Rokkari recently got more work entries in his calendar when he was appointed chairman of the Cancer Foundation’s Party Committee. The role of trust includes, among other things, meetings where Jussi is involved in planning the year’s events and cooperation patterns.

Jussi does not seek credit for himself through a trust deed. He wants to expand the cancer discussion in society and promote cancer research. It is also important to Jussi because his mother died of cancer in 2006.

Jussi’s mother had already had cancer before and was cured. Soon, however, the cancer recurred and eventually spread throughout the body.

– It was terrible. Perhaps the most difficult was when he had already received clean papers. The cancer was already defeated until it recurred again.

The musician knew how painful the illness was for the mother. However, Jussi doesn’t remember that his mother ever complained.

Mother’s death was crushing news. Mother’s passing did not arouse fear of death in Jussi, but anger and bitterness. Even then, he didn’t know what he was angry about.

Jussi didn’t think too much about it then, and didn’t give himself time to deal with his mother’s death. Instead, he drowned his sorrows in work and suppressed his thoughts under the shell of Rock Star.

– I thought I was smart when I said that we won’t cancel anything, but we will do everything we have planned. So I left from my mother’s funeral straight to Los Angeles to shoot a music video and from there to an American tour, the drummer recalls.

– I thought that I would just make a hell of a dune, and then I would be able to push the matter away. However, it doesn’t work like that, it has to be dealt with at some point, he continues.

That’s what he finally did. Today, the musician understands that his anger stemmed from the experience of injustice. He realized that anger would not help the grief, but mother’s death would have to be accepted.

Nowadays, Jussin finds it easier to talk about his mother. However, the mark left by the mother’s death never completely disappears.

– The sadness eases a little, but I miss you. Nowadays, it’s really nice to go to the grave to tell the news.

Dad’s pride

Jussi’s mother was sick when the drummer had his first daughter Rosa-Marian. The musician remembers his mother’s joy when the parent who raised three boys could finally do girly things. Unfortunately, the two girls’ stories ended when Jussi’s mother died when Rosa-Maria was 10 years old.

Today, 27-year-old Rosa-Maria has grown into a career woman. According to Juss, Rosa-Maria does the kind of work that she can do even abroad. Jussi can no longer keep up with everywhere his daughter travels. Sometimes the father is happy to receive a notification from his daughter that she is coming to the concert of The 69 eyes band.

However, Jussi and Rosa-Maria have an agreement that the father will not tell the public too much about his daughter’s affairs. The father wants to let his daughter talk about her own affairs if she wants to.

– I appreciate that she is a strong woman, as she already is. I’m really proud of it – always have been. And she is not only Jussi69’s daughter, but an independent woman who does really big things, the rock star emphasizes.

Jussi has noticed that Rosa-Maria is usually asked what it has been like to live with a musician father. Now Jussi takes a stand on the burning question on behalf of his daughter.

– He can’t answer that, because his father has always been like that. He was born to be me, he states.

No bucket list

You can see from Jussi’s nature that he has a down-to-earth attitude. This is also his view of the future: he considers everything possible.

However, there is no so-called bucket list – that is, a list of things that a person wants to do before they die. Jussi brings up the wisdom that he sometimes found familiar in the band Kiss by Paul Stanley from the biography.

– It had the phrase, loosely translated into Finnish, that it’s fucked up to think of a bucket list in such a way that you should do those things. What then when the bucket list is made? Jussi reveals.

– You should think about it the other way around. You should think of life as a mosaic: when you make things, you add a piece of them to the wall and you notice that it already has pretty good colors. And there could be more, he concludes.
