As a first assignment, the candidates have to take a picture of each other in pairs in bustling San Telmo – one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. In the street photography genre, the participants must be able to capture a scene ‘as Argentinean as possible’, in which not only the Argentine inhabitants play a role in the photo, but also their fellow candidate.
The Twente players Thomas Berge and Daphne Bunskoek are linked together as a duo and must be able to shoot the perfect picture of each other. However, where Daphne takes plenty of time to take the photos, Thomas stops after seven photos. According to the singer, the best photo is already there. The jury, on the other hand, is not very happy with this attitude. During the assessment, Tijl Beckand, the presenter of the program, shares the criticism with Thomas. “The jury was absolutely not happy about you attitudebecause how can you be ready after taking seven pictures?”

According to Thomas, there is a misunderstanding, because he ‘doesn’t mean badly’ or has ‘a attitude† “With a good heart I tried to shoot my perfect picture.” Despite the criticism, Thomas manages to hit the mark with one of the seven photos. The singer ends up quite high in the ranking. “That’s because your photo has something very spontaneous and real,” says Tijl. Thomas finishes in fourth place with a 6.5. “Next time take more time”, the singer gives himself as advice. For the time being, he is ‘really happy’ with a 6.5.
Thomas immediately takes his own advice to heart, because for the second assignment he took about ‘500 photos’. And that is richly rewarded, because he scores a 7.8 with his photo and with that he comes to an average of a 7.2.
The winner of the first episode is Renée Soutendijk. She finishes with a 7.8 in first place. With a 5.4 Tim den Besten ends up in last place. Normally this would mean he is no longer in the race for The Perfect Picturebut since this is the first episode, everyone gets to advance to the next round.
