Another one bites the dust resounded during the opening dance of the first live show of ‘Dancing with the Stars’. It was Pieter Timmers (33) who bit the dust and had to leave the match.

Losing weight first: it’s never fun, but someone has to be the first. In this third season of Dancing with the Stars Pieter Timmers is the unlucky bird. To determine the loser, the scores of the jury of the first two shows were calculated. Together they counted for fifty percent. The other half was determined by the viewers at home. Timmers closed the rankings last week with 19 points and was also the last in the class on Saturday with 21 points for his modern dance. For this, the dance floor was transformed into a large chessboard, but the swimmer was checked by the jury.

“I am very disappointed”, says Timmers afterwards, and we also read it on his face. Daughters Jutta (4) and Stella (8 m) will be able to comfort their daddy. “I am not disappointed in our performance, but I am disappointed in the points. Somehow we already saw it coming. We were already well behind after last week. Then we also had the same feeling: that we had received too few points. Now we get two points more despite showing a lot of progress and hard commitment. We put down something really nice, but that doesn’t translate into the points. That’s a shame.” Yet the two-meter swimmer also received compliments from the judges. Joffrey Anane let it be known that he liked to see Timmers busy and that he especially wanted to see more of him. “I got a lot of positive reactions and maybe that resulted in a lot of votes from the viewers, but the gap was too big.”

Agenda

Despite the too early farewell, the Beringenaar can look back on a positive experience. “I said from the start that it was a serious challenge for me. I was really a stiff board and to put this down now… That’s already huge for me. I also experienced many beautiful and fun moments with Natascha (his dance partner, ed.). We went through a very nice process together.” Was there a particular style he would have wanted to try out? “I would have loved to do freestyle or hip-hop. Or once a latin dance. Everything actually. (laughs) I had a taste for it. The rehearsals for the following weeks were all planned as well. So my agenda is suddenly going to be a lot emptier.”

Painkiller

To prepare for his modern dance, Pieter Timmers also received a mixed martial arts workshop last week. The big friendly giant – according to jury member Jan Kooijman – had to show that he can also be angry. That game of fighting effectively provided the right empathy, but it also earned the athlete a ride to the emergency room. “My ribs are seriously bruised. I can hardly laugh or shout and the leading role in our choreography also made a serious impact every time. It was a real countdown to the live show. I’ve been to the physiotherapist. That had me completely taped, but that didn’t help much. After the dress rehearsal I already had a lot of pain. But nevertheless, I really threw myself.”

So it might not be bad for his body that the dance adventure is over. “Next week it would have been a different dance. Then this could have healed and other aches and pains could arise. It’s something different every time,” laughs the athlete who would have liked to have added those aches.

He didn’t sleep much the night after the first live show. He had replayed the show completely in his head at least three times. Are there still sleepless nights ahead of him? “I think I’m going to take such a heavy painkiller that I’m completely lost.” (laughs)

‘Dancing with the Stars’, every Saturday on Play4. The episodes can also be (re)watched on GoPlay.
