The jury in the libel case of American actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard discussed Friday. After a six-week trial in which Depp and Heard accused each other of domestic violence, the seven-member jury will deliberate on a verdict.
Earlier in the day, the legal teams of the 58-year-old actor and the 36-year-old actress held their closing arguments. Depp’s team accused Heard of “saying anything to prove her right”. In contrast, Heard’s team cited that “domestic violence also occurs when there is no evidence”.
The case between Depp and Heard has been going on for six weeks. The former lovers have both testified in court. Witnesses were also heard for both Depp and Heard. The case is alive on social media and there is a lot of speculation about who will ultimately win this case.
Depp sued his ex-wife after she published an opinion piece for the American newspaper in 2018 The Washington Post had written, in which she said she was a victim of domestic violence. Although Depp was not mentioned by name, according to the actor it would have been obvious to readers that it was about him.
Although Heard has stated under oath in recent weeks that she is not the author of the piece in question, she stated on Thursday that she is the author of the article, “to show people how influential men like Johnny Depp are”.
