Laconic in colors and lines, the artist achieves expressive depictions of landscapes, still lifes and life. Even more interesting is the fact that Jānis Jēkabsons finds this apparent minimalism when painting in plein airs – thus in nature.
Painter Jānis Jēkabsona is an active, creative artist who regularly organizes solo exhibitions, participates in group exhibitions and plein airs. In 1986 he obtained an artist’s diploma from the Interior and Equipment Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts, but in 2003 he obtained a master’s degree in art. He has been a member of the Jurmala group of artists since 1981. The artist is also actively involved in exhibitions, promotions and events organized by the Jurmala Artists’ House.
“I work in the oil technique, applying paint with a brush and putty knife. I paint on cardboard, canvas, wood and plaster. I paint landscapes, portraits, still life. I try to achieve maximum effect with minimal means of expression.
I feel the fishing rod, brush and putty as a continuation of my hand. I like to paint and fish in summer, in winter – by hunting and hunting, designing fireplaces, ”says the artist himself.
At the exhibition Summer is over so beautiful the latest works of J. Jēkabsons can be seen, which already delights the viewer with bright colors and laconic brush strokes. Admission to the exhibition is free.
